Before our textiles reach you, they go through many hands and processes. Our textiles are crafted through a slow, layered process of hand block printing and natural dyeing. From start to finish, each piece can take two to three weeks to complete depending on the complexity of design. Each motif is printed by hand using carved wooden blocks, natural dyes and mordants prepared from plant and mineral sources.
The fabric goes through many stages - scouring, harda, mordant printing, drying, washing, dyeing, and finishing - all done by hand. During washing, the cloth is repeatedly rinsed and beaten against stone to soften the fabric and bring out the colours. The dyeing is carried out in copper vessels, following processes that have been practiced for generations.
