WELCOME TO ORI ARTISAN
Ori Artisan is a slow textile studio rooted in India’s living craft traditions. *Ori* means “to weave” in Japanese, and together with the Ensō circle — a symbol of continuity — it represents a bridge between ancient traditions and modern design.
Based between Singapore and India, Ori Artisan studio is dedicated to the research, revival, and reinterpretation of living heritage crafts. The practice focuses on hand block printing, natural dyeing, indigo resist and traditional weaving techniques. We work with master artisans and craft clusters in India engaging with generational knowledge systems and region-specific textile vocabularies.
Our textiles are handcrafted in India by skilled artisans using natural dyes and traditional techniques such as hand block printing and weaving, passed down through generations. Each piece is created slowly and mindfully, reflecting a deep respect for material, process, and inherited knowledge.
Motifs are printed by hand using intricately carved wooden blocks, while colours are developed through natural dyes and mordants derived from plant and mineral sources.
Our work engages closely with the textile traditions of Sanganer and extends into our broader initiative, RangRakha – Center for Living Heritage Crafts, which focuses on research, documentation, and collaboration with master artisans. Through this approach, we aim to sustain these living traditions while thoughtfully connecting them with contemporary audiences.
It’s a journey of slow, mindful creation, and we would love for you to follow along.
